Thank you for being a sane human being in a sea of progressive insanity, support for totalitarian regimes and Islamist terrorists.
President Clinton did not ask for Congressional approval before 76 days of Kosovo air campaign. President Obama did not ask for Congressional approval before the Libya air campaign. None of this is new. Of all three, president Trump is acting against a far more concrete threat to America. Iran has murdered, abducted and tortured many hundreds of American citizens from 1979 until now. It is behind multiple civil wars in the Middle East that have killed well over a million people in the last 23 years. It has used ballistic missiles against many countries including an EU country. It brags of having enough enriched uranium for 11 nuclear warheads. Neither the Serbs nor Libya had anything like Iran’s track record.
Progressives oppose Trump’s action because he’s Trump without a moment’s pause to consider what a massive enemy Iran is to the US. They support Iran’s genocidal proxy armies. I can never again donate to or vote to any such politician, which means nearly all progressives other than you.
I'm conflicted. The unchecked and wreckless exercise of executive power is worrying. At the same time, Congress is a joke. I have spent my entire politically aware adult life watching ineffectual foreign policy make the United States look apathetic to put it nicely, especially in regards to Iran. The Iranian regime has played us for fools decades. I watched administration after administration do the same choreographed dance with the Iranian government to no effect. Now, in 2026 we have an executive blatantly going outside the scope of his powers to wage war --- but, to wage war against Iran is the right call for a number of reasons. Ironically, I i don't think the president fully appreciates situation or the consequences. Haviv Rettig Gur just put out some great insight into why America is prosecuting this war. And no one should be confused, America is at war, and it will get worse -- for everyone.
I really admire your clear thinking and your ability to speak out even if it is not the party line. I do think you have it wrong here about the war in Iran. The president can engage in military action as long as he notifies congress of doing so within 48 hr. Trump did that. Congress now has the authority to restrict the war but failed to pass any resolutions, so the war continues..Yes, congress declares wars, but the commander in chief can make wars. There are so many instances of the US engaging in combat but very few instances where Congress actually declared war, think Korean War, Kosovo, Libya, Syria and VietNam to name a few. Anyway, keep up the great work you do. You are admired by many.
What about when the President receives operational intelligence that is fast moving- a window of opportunity that is hours not days. Does he/she need to go to Congress first for approval and perhaps miss the opportunity to take out top leadership, in this case multiple layers of government? I’d hope not, that both things could be done at the same time- reporting to Congress, and operating in the moment
Too much common sense Congressman Torres. I can’t handle it.
So right Ritchie. It makes no sense. And now they’re walking stuff back. This is insane. Glad we have you doing something about it.

It hurts to admit it, but you are right.
hi Ritchie,

What would the outcome have been? Had he gone to Congress?
Amen
